RESEARCH Tracing the footsteps of Emory's own Indiana Jones For undergraduate student Andrew Hoover, a seminar class led to an in-depth research project that traces the fascinating post-World War I path of an Emory professor turned adventurer. LEADERSHIP Emory names Pulavarti chief investment officer Starting July 1, Srinivas "Srini" Pulavarti will serve as vice president and chief investment officer (CIO), responsible for overseeing the university's investment portfolio totaling approximately $6.9 billion. MEDICINE Post-Ebola cataract surgery can safely restore vision Cataract surgery can be safely performed on Ebola virus disease survivors with impaired vision, Emory Eye Center ophthalmologists and 40 colleagues around the world report. ACHIEVEMENT Emory junior awarded Beinecke Scholarship to study link between music, identity An accomplished jazz bassist majoring in music studies and psychology, Emory College student Chris Batterman has won a prestigious Beinecke Scholarship to help fund his PhD in ethnomusicology. COMMUNITY Emory's Denim Day on April 18 supports ending sexual violence The Emory community is invited to wear denim on Wednesday, April 18, for Denim Day, an annual event intended to show support for survivors of sexual assault and ending sexual violence. EVENTS Sister Joan Chittister to speak at Emory on 'Radical Spirit' Candler School of Theology will welcome international lecturer and award-winning author Joan Chittister on April 29 to speak about her most recent book,"Radical Spirit: 12 Ways to Live a Free and Authentic Life."
