Emory student named Rhodes Scholar
Chelsea Jackson, a political science and African American Studies double major, is Emory's 20th student to be selected for the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, which provides for study at the University of Oxford in England.

 

HONORS
Emory Vaccine Center's Orenstein elected AAAS 2017 Fellow
Walter A. Orenstein, an Emory professor of medicine, pediatrics and global health, has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his contributions to the health of children worldwide by measuring vaccine effectiveness and increasing vaccine coverage.

Emory to welcome displaced undergraduates from Puerto Rico
In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Emory is ready to welcome up to 32 undergraduate students displaced from their studies in Puerto Rico.

 

HEALTH CARE
Winship researcher reports new treatment option for EGFR-mutated lung cancer
Non-small cell lung cancer patients with an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation experienced substantial improvement in outcomes when treated with the drug osimertinib, according to research led by Suresh S. Ramalingam of Emory's Winship Cancer Institute.

Ellmann Lectures explore literary fathers and sons
Acclaimed Irish author Colm Tóibín visited Emory to deliver the Richard Ellmann Lectures in Modern Literature, where he addressed the theme of "Writers and Their Fathers: Wilde, Yeats and Joyce."

 

IN MEMORIAM
Frye, Emory's first provost, remembered for integrity, leadership
Billy E. Frye, a respected scholar, educator and administrator who helped guide Emory during years of rapid campus and program development as the university's first provost, and later as interim president and then chancellor, died Nov. 14.
