Emory University, largest employer in DeKalb County, serves as driving force for Atlanta region
Emory provides $9.1 billion in economic impact within the Atlanta region and Georgia, while supporting nearly 64,000 jobs and generating $200 million in state tax revenues, according to a new study.

'Epitaphs' exhibit to feature Billy Howard's photographs of people living with HIV/AIDS
Riveting images of people living with HIV/AIDS in the 1980s, taken by Atlanta-area photographer Billy Howard, are the basis of an exhibit at Emory's Robert W. Woodruff Library. A conversation with Howard is scheduled June 22 at 6:30 p.m.

New allocation system reduces racial/ethnic disparities in kidney transplant for waitlisted patients
Emory researchers prove that a new kidney allocation system implemented by the United Network for Organ Sharing decreased disparities in national kidney transplant rates among whites, blacks and Hispanics on the transplant waitlist.

INTERNATIONAL
Theology students visit Haiti to explore moral leadership
Graduate students in Candler School of Theology traveled to Haiti for a 10-day seminar in moral leadership led by professor and public theologian Robert Franklin, visiting with artists, academics, and spiritual and political leaders.

HERCULES Exposome Research Center receives $7.5 million grant renewal from NIH
Directed by environmental health professor Gary W. Miller, the center explores how the exposome -- environmental exposures and associated biological responses over the course of a lifetime -- impacts human health and disease.

 

COMMUNITY
First-generation students find needed support in campus program
Launched in fall 2013, the 1915 Scholars Program provides a "family" support network for first-generation college students who might struggle in their transition from high school to college.

Emory University and Emory Healthcare employees may walk with coworkers at noon on Wednesdays at either Blomeyer Health Fitness Center (membership not required) or in the Emory University Hospital tunnel.
