RESEARCH Dads show gender biases in brain responses, behaviors toward toddlers A toddler's gender influences the brain responses as well as the behavior of fathers -- from how attentive they are to their child, to the types of language that they use and the play that they engage in, Emory neuroscientist Jennifer Mascaro finds. HONORS Emory chemist garners international honor for lifetime achievement Huw Davies, Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Chemistry, received the Humboldt Research Award for his work on organic synthesis, particularly C-H functionalization, which could lead to a paradigm shift in how pharmaceuticals and other chemicals are made. ACHIEVEMENT Emory students chosen for Humanity in Action Fellowship Jalyn Radziminski-Smith and Virginia Spinks will spend the next month immersed in the study of human and civil rights when they join a global network of students in Europe for the 2017 Humanity in Action Fellowship Program. SPORTS Emory men's tennis team wins NCAA Division III Championship It's been a banner season for Emory tennis: The varsity men's team won its fourth NCAA title, the varsity women's team placed second in the NCAA, and the Oxford College men's team notched its third-consecutive NJCAA championship. IMPACT Nurturing young scientists to increase diversity in STEM fields Aimed at undergraduates and new graduate students, the Emory Initiative to Maximize Student Development seeks to diversify the STEM workforce through mentoring, seminars and career coaching.
