INNOVATION New semester brings new events, programs across Emory The nine schools that make up Emory University have big plans for the spring semester, from exciting events and programs to ambitious strategic planning. Here's a roundup of what's new and noteworthy. TEACHING University Courses take on challenging, interdisciplinary topics This semester's University Courses bring together diverse faculty and students from across campus to examine issues surrounding global security and leadership, the ethics of eating and disability and resilience. RESEARCH Emory, Morehouse team develops mobile device platform to improve community health Researchers at Emory University and Morehouse School of Medicine are building an ambitious project to work with teens and young adults in minority communities in metro Atlanta to create a health platform supported by mobile devices. EVENTS World premiere orchestra performance, archival film tour headline January arts events The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra visits campus this month to perform the debut of "a canticle of shadows," an elegy for victims of war from Richard Prior, director of performance studies at Emory. RESOURCES Winship researchers receive Avon Grant Investigators at the Glenn Family Breast Center at Winship Cancer Institute are the recipients of a one-year, $750,000 grant from the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade Board of Managers.
