2016 was a year of milestones and discoveries for Emory. The university celebrated the selection of Claire E. Sterk as Emory's 20th president, while faculty and students made headlines with breakthroughs in fields ranging from medical research to civil rights cold cases.

HEALTH CARE
Grateful patient returns to Emory University Hospital Midtown to thank care teams
In December 2015, Florida native John Heilig found himself in Emory University Hospital Midtown, not knowing how he got there or why. A year later, he returned to Emory to thank the health care providers who saved his life.

 

ADMISSIONS
Early decision applications show positive trends for undergraduate admissions
The first wave of early decision applications shows an 11 percent increase for Emory University's Class of 2021. The 1,595 applications for Emory College and Oxford College include 610 students who applied to both.

 

LEADERSHIP
Emory Board of Trustees elects new members
Emory University's Board of Trustees has elected three new members: Crystal Edmonson, broadcast editor of the Atlanta Business Chronicle; Bishop Sue Haupert-Johnson, episcopal leader of the North Georgia Conference of The United Methodist Church; and Stuart A. Rose, executive chairman of the board, REX American Resources Corp.
