COMMUNITY Emory employees take over 3 billion steps in 2016 Move More Challenge Employees of Emory University and Emory Healthcare collectively walked 1.37 million miles, climbed 2.98 million flights of stairs and took over 3 billion total steps for the 2016 Move More Challenge. PREPAREDNESS How to stay informed if the weather turns severe In the event of severe weather conditions, the university may announce delays or cancellations of normal campus activities. With winter nearing, take time to review the multiple ways you can stay informed about possible closings and delays. RESEARCH Malaria math: Using big data to study malarial resistance Malaria, the most widespread human parasitic disease, is caused by a parasite delivered via the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito. But not everyone hosting the parasite gets sick. Emory professor Mary Galinski is leading an effort to understand immune response to malaria. HONORS Musical America names Emory's William Ransom one of '30 Innovators of the Year' Musical America, a publication at the forefront of classical music, has named William Ransom, artistic director of the Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta, to its '30 Innovators of the Year' in classical music. SUSTAINABILITY Innovative campus sustainability projects get boost from Incentives Fund grants From reducing waste at Emory Athletics games to building a "living wall" in the heart of first-year student housing, winners of this year's Incentives Fund grants have diverse plans to further green goals on campus. TEACHING Course invites students to explore 'Power of Black Self-Love' Offered through Emory's Interdisciplinary Exploration and Scholarship (IDEAS) program, "The Power of Black Self-Love" enables students to delve into the world of public scholarship through a very personal lens.
