TEACHING Emory Law students learn the theater of the courtroom Adjunct professor Janet Metzger teaches a course where drama and the law combine, helping aspiring attorneys become confident, persuasive storytellers. HEALTH CHAMPS adds three new sites, expanding global health surveillance network to six countries Led by the Emory Global Health Institute, the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance Network strives to understand why young children die. New sites in Kenya, Ethiopia and Bangladesh will join ongoing efforts in South Africa, Mali and Mozambique. RESEARCH NIH grants Emory $5.4M to continue work in Udall Parkinson's Disease Research Center Emory University will receive more than $1 million each year for the next five years from the National Institutes of Health, with a goal of developing more effective Parkinson's disease treatments that have fewer side effects. INTERNATIONAL Global internship program takes liberal arts into the workplace Emory's new global internship program offers options for students who are interested in study abroad, but prioritize internships, or for those who have studied abroad before and want a different experience. FACULTY Emory College establishes new standards for tenure Emory College of Arts and Sciences recently announced new standards for tenure that will require excellence in both teaching and research for assistant professors seeking to be promoted to associate professors. ETHICS Unique practicum provides deeper understanding of Emory Honor Code Emory students serving on the Honor Council gain in-depth insight through a new practicum devoted to exploring research on academic integrity, the need for honor systems and the impact of violating them.
