RESOURCES Emory receives record $574.6 million in external research funding for FY 2016 Researchers at Emory University received $574.6 million from external funding agencies in fiscal year 2016. This marks the seventh consecutive year that research funding has exceeded $500 million, and with an increase from $572.4 in FY 2015, it's the largest amount of research funding in Emory's history. HONORS National Academy of Medicine elects Emory nursing, public health researchers  The National Academy of Medicine has elected Deborah W. Bruner, Woodruff Professor of Nursing, and K.M. Venkat Narayan, Hubert Professor of Global Health, to its 2016 class of leading health scientists and international members, one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine. POLITICS Experts outline best sources for fact-checking the presidential race With just three weeks until Election Day, fact-checking is more important than ever. At a panel hosted by Emory Libraries, experts outlined their fact-checking methods and the fact-check websites they trust. SUPPORT Emory's Carlos Museum receives $1 million gift Real estate businessman and entrepreneur Charles S. Ackerman has fulfilled a pledge to gift $1 million to the Michael C. Carlos Museum to name the museum's reception hall the Charles S. Ackerman Hall. RESEARCH Scientists achieve sustained remission in SIV infection Scientists from Emory, led by professor Aftab Ansari, have shown they can achieve sustained control of infection by HIV's relative SIV in rhesus macaques. The results, achieved by supplementing antiretroviral drugs with an antibody during and after drug treatment, could provide a blueprint for long-lasting HIV treatment. PROFILE Chris Beck: 'Hero' to the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve An Emory professor of laboratory teaching, Chris Beck, is being recognized for his volunteer work involving an unexpected kind of laboratory: a 28-acre Atlanta nature sanctuary.
