Student’s debut novel showcases young Black Muslim women’s voices
Laila Sabreen has quietly been working on fiction projects while pursuing additional undergraduate research and community service. Her first novel, “You Truly Assumed,” released Feb. 8.

February is filled with concerts across multiple genres, including an evening with the legendary Branford Marsalis Quartet. The Carlos Museum hosts multiple events related to its exhibits and the Woodruff Library unveils an exhibit spotlighting graphic novels.

Carol Anderson honored for contributions to social justice by Brandeis University
Brandeis University has awarded Emory historian Carol Anderson the Joseph B. and Toby Gittler Prize for outstanding and lasting scholarly contributions to racial, ethnic and religious relations.

Emory neurosurgeon helps President Biden relaunch Cancer Moonshot
Edjah Nduom, a neurosurgeon-scientist at Emory University, was tapped to introduce President Joe Biden at a ceremony to relaunch the Cancer Moonshot initiative that began five years ago under President Barack Obama’s administration.

Student Studio: Spherical Ceramic Vessels
Visit the Art of the Americas galleries at the Carlos to discover small, spherical jars enlivened with colorful slip-painted designs made by Tonosi and Conte artists in Panama. Then create your own "closed-form" jars by joining two simple pinch pots, forming a rim and decorating them with your own slip designs. Museum staff will fire the jars and notify students when they are ready for pick-up.
