Daniele Fallin, an internationally regarded researcher and educator, as the new James W. Curran Dean of Public Health at the Rollins School of Public Health. Fallin will join Emory July 1. LEADERSHIP Valeda F. Dent to serve as inaugural vice provost of libraries and museum As vice provost of libraries and museum, Valeda F. Dent will unite Emory Libraries and the Michael C. Carlos Museum under a new leadership structure. She will formally take the role in July. DISCOVERY Antiviral drug discovered at Emory receives authorization from FDA On Dec. 23, molnupiravir, an investigational oral antiviral drug invented by scientists at Emory University, received Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA for the treatment of COVID-19. RESEARCH Children's books still show bias toward male protagonists, analysis finds A major analysis of children’s books published during the last 60 years suggests that a bias persists toward male protagonists — despite an overall trend for an increasing proportion of female leads. Psychologist Stella Lourenco is senior author of the study. First author is Kennedy Casey, a former intern in the Lourenco lab. Senior Kylee Novick is co-author.
