CAMPUS Emory University sets tuition for 2021-22 academic year Emory President Gregory L. Fenves has set the academic year 2021-22 tuition and fee schedule for Emory’s undergraduate, graduate, and professional schools. The tuition review process included leaders from across the university. SCIENCE Viral sequencing can reveal how SARS-CoV-2 spreads and evolves The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 virus variants that are adding twists in the battle against COVID-19 highlight the need for better genomic monitoring of the virus, says biologist Katia Koelle. The published work included PhD student Michael Martin as first author and postdoctoral fellow David VanInsberghe as co-author. OBSERVANCE Emory commemorates Black History Month with events throughout February Departments across Emory will host numerous virtual activities during February in recognition of Black History Month, including panel discussions, a film screening and conversations with artists and authors. INSPIRATION MLK Lecture connects King’s legacy with economic responsibilities today Emory alum Maggie Anderson gained international attention in 2009 as her family lived out her public pledge to only “buy Black” for an entire year. Anderson shared her empowerment experiment as the university’s 2021 MLK Jr. Lecture speaker. PARTNERSHIP Emory joins Morningside Foundation on competition to solve critical global health challenges Emory University and the Morningside Foundation have deepened their long partnership by collaborating on a multidisciplinary international student competition aimed at addressing real-world, critical global health challenges. GROWTH Master planning update anticipates investment that will shape Emory’s future In 1915, architect Henry Hornbostel drafted Emory’s first master plan, establishing the foundation for strategic growth that continues today. The new framework plan includes the Graduate Student Housing Initiative, which will provide housing along Haygood Drive for graduate students to live within walking distance to campus.

COVID-19 Vaccine Town Hall   Stay informed: Emory’s next community update on the COVID-19 vaccine will be Thursday, Feb. 4, at 11:30 a.m. The virtual town hall will feature President Gregory L. Fenves; Amir St. Clair, associate vice president and executive director for COVID-19 response and recovery; Alan Anderson, assistant vice president, university partnerships; Nicole M. Franks, chief quality officer and attending physician, Emory University Hospital Midtown; and Nadine Rouphael, professor, Department of Medicine.
