CAMPUS Emory announces search advisory committee for next provost As Emory’s chief academic officer, the provost provides essential leadership for education and research. The search advisory committee is chaired by President Gregory L. Fenves and includes faculty members, students, deans and a trustee. SUSTAINABILITY Campus compost streams temporarily diverted to landfills Although Emory's compost is currently being sent to landfills after the vendors that handle it were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is encouraged to keep sorting trash in the recycle, compost and landfill bins while Campus Services negotiates with new vendors. RESEARCH COVID-19 vaccine tested at Emory spurs immune response in older adults A Phase 1 trial of an investigational mRNA vaccine to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection has shown that the vaccine is well tolerated and generates a strong immune response in older adults. Emory was one of three sites in the nation to enroll adults ages 56 and older as part of the trial. ENVIRONMENT Solar energy conversion focus of Emory chemist’s new research Emory scientists will search for a way to convert sunlight into storable and transportable fuels as part of a multi-institutional research group receiving a $40 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy. CREATIVITY October brings the arts to all with virtual concerts, theater productions and more October arts activities at Emory include a free virtual concert featuring internationally acclaimed flutist, saxophone player and pianist Jane Bunnett Cuban with the award-winning jazz ensemble Maqueque on Oct. 2.
