UNIVERSITY Emory joins legal challenge in support of international students Emory University has joined an amicus brief supporting a lawsuit to block a new federal policy that would not allow international students to retain their F-1 visas if their course of study is entirely online. PHILANTHROPY Largest individual gift in Oxford’s history will have lasting impact Oxford College has received an estate gift of $8.4 million, the largest individual cash gift in its history. Half of the donation will fund student financial aid through the Duane and Emy Blair Scholarship Endowment, with the other half reserved for capital improvements to campus buildings and infrastructure. ENVIRONMENT Emory scholars design public digital resource to explore Georgia’s coast The Georgia Coast Atlas is an online gateway to the dynamic ecosystems and intriguing history of the state’s 100-mile-long coast and barrier islands, weaving together research, fieldwork and technology to create an unprecedented resource for educators, conservationists, students and the public. The interactive trove keeps expanding through the efforts of Emory students and faculty. DISCOVERY HIV pre-exposure drug regimen highly effective in preventing infection A new drug regimen requiring injections every eight weeks has shown to be more effective in preventing HIV infection than one in which a pill must be taken daily. Emory enrolled more than 300 volunteers in the study. HEALTH Emory team brings COVID-19 testing to poultry workers in rural Georgia Emory epidemiologist Jodie Guest and graduate students from the Rollins School of Public Health provided COVID-19 tests to 450 poultry plant workers, family members and other contacts during a recent trip to Hall County.
