RESEARCH Emory biologist awarded grant for male contraceptive research Biology professor Steven L'Hernault is working to develop a platform to use nematode worms to screen for male contraceptive candidates that block the binding of sperm and egg. CREATIVITY 'Embodied' celebrates the interplay between health and the arts Arts at Emory and the Center for the Study of Human Health partner to present "Embodied," a semester-long exploration of the intersection of well-being and creative expression. The joint effort stemmed partly from students who expressed interest in more STEAM programming. COLLABORATION Partnership receives funding for single ventricle heart defect research The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory and Georgia Tech will share in a $5.7 million Innovation Fund to identify cures for children born with single ventricle heart defects, a rare but incurable condition. RECOGNITION International Awards highlight Emory’s global impact Meet the recipients of Emory's 2019-2020 International Awards, including chemistry professor Dennis Liotta, alumna Mabel Magowe and Frank Gaertner of Emory College’s Office of Undergraduate Education. CONNECTION Super Bowl kicker has deep ties to Emory Harrison Butker, a record-setting field goal kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, has strong family ties to Emory's Winship Cancer Institute and will play in Super Bowl LIV on Feb. 2 in Miami. IMPACT Emory’s traveling exhibit on black art and activism inspires Atlanta students A team at Emory is helping get educational materials out of the library and into the community through "Speak What Must Be Spoken," a traveling exhibition now on display at Drew Charter School. The opening celebration included music, art and a barber-shop skit written by students, all sparked by the exhibit.
