COMMUNITY 'Day On' honors Martin Luther King Jr. with day of service Many students spent their MLK Day tackling service projects as part of Emory's Day On in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. See photos and learn about additional King Week events, which continue through Jan. 26. ARTS Cinematheque explores history of African Americans in American films Four Cinematheque titles this spring feature Academy Award-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr., who will attend the screenings of his films and will participate in post-screening discussions. PERSPECTIVES New TheoEd Talks from Candler School of Theology set for Feb. 9 As part of its initiative in public theological education, TheoEd Talks feature church and academy leaders sparking conversations that change the way people think about faith. DISCOVERY 'Bilingual' molecule connecting two basic codes for life is synthesized A new molecule synthesized in Emory chemist Jennifer Heemstra's lab could become a powerful tool for diagnostics, gene therapy and drug delivery targeted to specific cells. Colin Swenson, first author of the paper, is a graduate student in Heemstra’s lab. INNOVATION Emory to host new cutting-edge science exhibition venue Science Gallery International and Emory will partner to create and curate an immersive exhibition space in Atlanta designed to inspire young adults in the sciences and arts. RECOGNITION Laney student receives Kharen Fulton Award Brent Allman, a fourth-year student in the Population Biology, Ecology and Evolution doctoral program, has been named the Laney Graduate School’s 2019-20 Kharen Fulton Diversity Awardee. ACHIEVEMENT Emory mathematician ignites acclaim for one of year's top discoveries Discover Magazine names Emory mathematician Hao Huang's proof of the sensitivity conjecture one of the "Top 50 Science Stories That Matter" for 2019 and Popular Mechanics calls it one of "The 10 Biggest Math Breakthroughs" of the year.
