HONORS Emory ranked #1 for quality of life by Princeton Review Emory University has been ranked #1 for quality of life, according to the Princeton Review's 27th annual college rankings, "The 384 Best Colleges" guide, based on its nationwide survey of 138,000 college students' ratings of their schools. IMPACT Two Emory graduates named Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellows in Georgia 2018 Emory graduates Lorenzo Harmon and John Wang were selected for the Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellowship, which recruits top aspiring educators to teach science and math in high-need rural and urban schools. LEADERSHIP Emory, other universities submit amicus brief to U.S. Supreme Court in support of affirmative action Emory and 14 other universities filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court on Aug. 1 regarding two cases pertaining to affirmative action. The brief explains how a diverse student body strengthens the educational experience for all students. RESEARCH Black educators played hidden, key role in school desegregation Emory professor Vanessa Siddle Walker's new book, "The Lost Education of Horace Tate," explores the hidden history of African American educators working to end the system of segregated schools. ACHIEVEMENT Emory biochemist garners $500,000 Career Award for steroid receptor research The Burroughs Wellcome Fund selected postdoctoral fellow C. Denise Okafor for a Career Award at the Scientific Interface, supporting her research on the evolution of steroid receptors. The award bridges biology and computational, physical, engineering or theoretical sciences. INSIGHT 'Empress' details history of India's 'Queen of Queens' Emory historian Ruby Lal's new book explores the extraordinary life of Nur Jahan, who led troops into battle, killed a tiger with a single shot and was the only woman to rule over the Mughal empire.
