INSIGHT Dollar Shave Club CEO Michael Dubin to deliver 2018 Commencement address Emory alumnus Michael Dubin, co-founder and CEO of Dollar Shave Club, will deliver the keynote address at the university's 173rd commencement ceremony Monday, May 14. He also will receive an honorary Doctor of Business degree. Learn more about Dubin and this year's other honorary degree recipients. INNOVATION Miniature 'bleeding' device eases study of clotting disorders Biomedical engineers have developed a miniature self-sealing model system for studying bleeding and the clotting of wounds. The researchers envision the device as a drug discovery platform and potential diagnostic tool. LITERATURE Emory to celebrate Black Arts Movement writer Mari Evans Emory will celebrate the contributions of Mari Evans, an influential Black Arts Movement writer and activist, with poetry readings and a panel on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at Woodruff Library. RESEARCH Twitter reveals how future-thinking Americans are and how that affects their decisions Individuals who tend to think further into the future are more likely to invest money and to avoid risks, finds a new paper by Emory psychologists Phillip Wolff and Robert Thorstad. BUSINESS Atlanta Hawks, Falcons and Braves talk survey analysis with students Michael Lewis, associate professor of marketing at Goizueta Business School, brought in representatives from the Atlanta Falcons, Braves and Hawks to speak with his Sports Marketing Analytics class as they create a survey on Atlanta sports. SUSTAINABILITY Monthly sessions will answer questions on new campus waste policy At a series of monthly meetings, the Emory community can get information on the new waste policy, how to recycle or compost questionable items, and why you have to service your own desk-side container. COMMUNITY Emory takes steps to prevent, respond to flu cases on campus Student Health Services has reported 193 cases of influenza and influenza-type illness since Jan. 1. The number of reported cases appears to have peaked, but the campus remains vigilant and focused on prevention. CAMPUS 'Divine Felines' exhibition showcases Egypt's exaltation of cats "Divine Felines: Cats of Ancient Egypt," now open at the Carlos Museum, showcases cats and lions, plus dogs and jackals, as domesticated pets, creatures of the wild and mythic symbols of divinity.
