ENGAGEMENT Emory hosts community conversation on America's opioid crisis Emory's "Conversations with America" came to campus for a robust town hall bringing together a panel of experts and the public to discuss many facets of the U.S. opioid crisis. EVENTS February: 10 free things to do on campus From poetry to puppets and singing to sports, February's calendar brings a variety of free entertainment and educational events to campus. SUSTAINABILITY Campus-wide recycling events divert tons of waste from landfill The Emory community recycled a total of 245,102 pounds of material across campus in November 2017, 58,749 more pounds than November 2016. LITERATURE Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith to give reading at Emory Tracy K. Smith, the current U.S. poet laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, will give a reading of her poems on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. at Emory's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. CONSERVATION Chimpanzee studies highlight disease risk to all endangered wildlife Emory disease ecologist Thomas Gillespie was a guest editor of the newly published special edition of the American Journal of Primatology, bringing together experts who have contributed to the understanding of chimpanzee health at Gombe National Park in Tanzania and beyond. PUBLIC SAFETY Car break-ins prompt a reminder to lock up A recent increase in vehicle break-ins reported on campus has prompted a reminder from the Emory Department of Public Safety to lock and remove valuables from your vehicles.
