Sonia Sotomayor, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, will participate in a discussion with Emory Law professor Fred Smith Jr. at an event for the law school community on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

PSYCHOLOGY
New research aims to understand how genetic differences contribute to addiction
Psychology professor Rohan Palmer has earned a five-year, $2.34 million grant to examine why some people become addicted to alcohol or drugs, while others don't. His novel project involves both graduate and undergraduate student researchers.

Emory Law launches LGBTQ Legal Services
Created by Emory Law, Emory LGBTQ Legal Services will provide pro bono legal assistance to members of the LGBTQ community in the Atlanta area.

Lecture on Seamus Heaney's publishing life set for Feb. 1
Scholar Rand Brandes will discuss the publishing legacy of the late Irish poet Seamus Heaney, who won the Nobel Prize and was also his friend and mentor.

Sustainability grants fund green projects across Emory
From campus gardens to research labs, projects funded by the latest round of grants from Emory's Office of Sustainability Initiatives hope to support pollinators, improve energy use and reduce waste across the university.
