NEW ACADEMIC YEAR BEGINS   WELCOME Meet Emory's Class of 2021 Emory's Class of 2021 arrives this week from across the nation and the world. Along with impressive grades, test scores and artistic and athletic endeavors, they bring diverse stories of their academic journeys. STATISTICS Class of 2021: By the numbers Take a closer look at the demographics of first-year students entering Emory University through Emory College of Arts and Sciences and Oxford College. CAMPUS Move-In Day in less than a minute When Emory's newest students arrived on campus, they joined in a time-honored ritual -- an experience made smoother by months of advance planning and hundreds of volunteers. Here's a glimpse of Move-In Day 2017. RESOURCES As semester starts, Campus Life Center construction advances on schedule The swift demolition of the DUC over the summer cleared the way for the rise of Emory's new Campus Life Center, which will offer more space to connect and collaborate. ACHIEVEMENT Exceptional students selected as new class of Emory Scholars They come from as far away as Ghana and as close as Atlanta. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, founded nonprofits and graduated as valedictorian. Get to know the newest Emory Scholars, selected for their achievements and potential. IMPACT New PhD students bring diverse talents to Emory Undergraduates aren't the only new students arriving on campus. Emory also welcomes hundreds of new students seeking the university's highest degree, the PhD, pursuing original research on subjects ranging from chemistry to climate change. INNOVATION New academic year means new programs, events across Emory The nine schools that make up Emory University have big plans for the 2017-18 academic year. MORE NEWS   EVENTS Emory Cinematheque film series explores 'Resisting Fascism' Emory Cinematheque, a weekly series of free film screenings, examines the ways fascism has been opposed in the movies since the 1930s with "Resisting Fascism." The series begins tonight and continues through Nov. 29. RESEARCH 'Friend of fragile X' gene offers insight into brain Two genes involved in inherited intellectual disability, one far more famous than the other, are "friends," Emory researchers have learned. HEALTH Moms, future moms with rare inherited disorder aim for healthy babies People with phenylketonuria (PKU) must learn to live their lives adhering to a strict diet to preserve their health. Women with PKU have an added burden: the need for extra vigilance during pregnancy. HONORS Five Emory nurses named fellows of the American Academy of Nursing Five Emory nurses will be inducted as 2017 Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing. The academy is composed of more than 2,000 of the nation's most accomplished nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research.

Emory Insider: Traditions   The Coca-Cola Toast: Each fall, the Coca-Cola Toast welcomes new Emory students to campus; each spring, graduating students raise a Coke bottle to bid farewell to their college years. The tradition commemorates Emory's relationship with The Coca-Cola Company, including Asa Griggs Candler's 1914 "Million Dollar Letter" and Robert W. and George Woodruff's 1979 gift of $105 million.
