SERVICE Emory senior helps minority high school students network into STEM research After conducting award-winning research in high school, Alexa Dantzler founded Students Obtaining Atlanta Research (SOAR) her first year at Emory to encourage female students of color from economically disadvantaged neighborhoods to become STEM researchers. LEADERSHIP Emory joins new amicus brief against President Trump's executive order on immigration Emory joined 30 other universities around the country in filing a new amicus brief opposing President Trump's second executive order restricting immigration. The brief was filed April 20 in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. SPORTS Tennis teams win University Athletic Association championships Emory's tennis teams swept the UAA championships, with the women's team claiming its fifth consecutive title and the men's team claiming its third. HONORS Emory law, global health professor named Carnegie Fellow Polly Price, professor of law and global health at Emory, is one of 35 recipients of the prestigious 2017 Andrew Carnegie fellowship, which funds significant research and writing in the social sciences and humanities. COLLABORATION Students transform art into action to help area nonprofits Now in its third year, Emory's "Art and Social Engagement" course unites students, Atlanta artists and area nonprofits. As students partner with community-based organizations, they create artwork that can influence pressing social issues. COMMUNITY Emory goes all out for March for Science Atlanta Emory scientists and supporters of science came out in substantial numbers Saturday, April 22, for the March for Science Atlanta in Candler Park. LITERATURE Creative Writing Program announces 2017-2019 fellows in fiction, poetry Emory's Creative Writing Program will welcome two new postgraduate fellows to campus this fall. Michael Marberry has been named the new Fellow in Poetry and Cassie Gonzales will serve as the Fellow in Fiction for 2017-2019. ENGAGEMENT Global Health Case Competition challenges U.S., international teams Nearly 140 students from universities across the United States, as well as from Canada, Denmark and Australia, gathered in 24 teams at Emory to compete in the 7th annual International Emory Global Health Case Competition. PROFILE Human health student fights back against bacteria with research Working from a similar breakthrough by his thesis adviser, ethnobotanist Cassandra Quave, Emory senior Matt Mendelsohn discovered two root extracts help conquer staph's defense system.

Photo Galleries   Emory Denim Day The Emory community observed Denim Day on April 19, wearing jeans and other denim clothing to show support for survivors of sexual assault and the overall goal of ending interpersonal violence. DUC Farewell Dinner Emory Dining hosted a farewell dinner for Dobbs Market on April 25, featuring a special menu, photo booth and even a "DUC" ice sculpture commemorating the Dobbs University Center, which will close to make way for the new Campus Life Center.
