HONORS Emory senior, recent graduate named 2017 Schwarzman Scholars Emory senior Caiwei Huang and alumnus Zihao Zhang are among 129 students from across the globe awarded Schwarzman Scholarships for graduate study next year in China. They are Emory's first Schwarzman Scholars. INSPIRATION Faraaz Hossain honored with social justice award Faraaz Hossain, an Emory junior who died this summer during a terror attack in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has been awarded the 2016 Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice. HEALTH Emory experts take on the HIV paradox A vaccine and better long-term treatment for HIV seem closer than ever before -- but rates among gay men in the South remain troubling. INNOVATION 'Fictions of the Body' helps students see the humanity in health, medicine An upper-level French class cross-listed with Human Health, Fictions of the Body explores different perspectives on illness, disease and even how the human body is seen during medical treatment. RESEARCH Upward mobility boosts immunity in monkeys The chronic stress of life with low social status can alter the immune system of rhesus macaques, even in the absence of other risk factors, according to a new study conducted at Emory's Yerkes National Primate Research Center. LEADERSHIP Rep. Price, doctor with Emory ties, tapped for Health and Human Services secretary U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), an orthopedic surgeon trained at Emory, was named by the president-elect as his pick for Health and Human Services secretary. Price could have a key role in reshaping health care. SUSTAINABILITY Will the shifting political winds affect U.S. climate policy? Emory seniors Emily Li and Jennie Sun were part of an Emory delegation to Marrakech, Morocco, in November for a U.N. Climate Change Conference. Shortly after the event began, Donald Trump won the U.S. presidential election. TEACHING How Emory is redesigning nursing education At the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, a new curriculum built around the care continuum across the lifespan prepares students to shape the future of health care.

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols Emory welcomed the holiday season with A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, held Friday, Dec. 2, and Saturday, Dec. 3, in Glenn Memorial Auditorium. A tradition since 1935, the service featured Christmas choral music with readings by special guests from the Emory community. See more photos. The Bard and Poetry As Shakespeare's First Folio nears the end of its visit to campus, the Emory community gathered Dec. 5 for "The Bard and Poetry," an evening of readings from acclaimed poets Natasha Trethewey, Kevin Young and Jericho Brown.
