Holiday Greetings from Dr. Jonathan S. Lewin

Dear Woodruff Health Sciences Center Faculty, Staff, and Students,

While the COVID-19 pandemic prevents our Emory teams from celebrating the holiday season together in person this year, I want you all to know that I appreciate you every day, and I am especially grateful to be your colleague during this holiday season.

2020 has been a year unlike any other. In addition to the pandemic, we have faced social and political unrest, economic hardship, and so much uncertainty. We have all faced many personal and professional challenges. I appreciate that there are many in our community who have suffered great losses, and I can only hope that a brighter future lies ahead for each and every one.

On a positive note, I am so proud of what our community has accomplished.

Our frontline medical teams have more than risen to the challenge, facing COVID-19 with remarkable skill and fortitude and ensuring both COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients receive our highest, most compassionate standard of care.

Our research teams, despite the difficulties of continuing their research during a shutdown, managed to bring in record-breaking research award totals and have propelled Emory into the top three universities nationwide in terms of COVID-19 research funding.

Our educators rapidly innovated and adapted to new models of learning to provide our students the first-rate instruction they expect from Emory while at the same time protecting their safety and that of our community.

And our staff in all fields across the health sciences have shown flexibility, creativity, and resourcefulness in adapting to new ways of working without missing a beat.

As we approach the holidays and the end of 2020, I’m so grateful to all of you for the way you’ve handled this historic year. And I am confident that, together, we will make 2021 better and brighter.

I wish you and your loved ones a safe and joyful holiday season and good health in the new year.

Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, FACR
