Innovative Discovery

The researchers of Emory’s Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) have a long and venerated history of not only thinking what no one else has thought before, but also actualizing those thoughts into real advances that save and improve lives.

That’s why innovative discovery is a cornerstone of our strategic plan. It’s true that much of our energy and ingenuity pivoted toward the fight against COVID-19 during the past 20 months. But at the same time, under incredibly challenging circumstances due to the pandemic, our game-changing discoveries in virtually every area of human health continued unabated. From HIV/AIDS to cancer to brain health to pediatric research to the social determinants of health and everywhere in between, our researchers and their teams have maintained a truly extraordinary momentum.

So it should come as no surprise that when the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research released its rankings of schools and departments by NIH funding, Emory scored among the nation’s most elite academic health centers.

Our ongoing, spectacular growth accentuates Emory’s reputation as a research powerhouse and, despite the challenges of a global pandemic, underscores our commitment to improving human health through discovery and innovation.
