Pat Marstellar
Pat Marsteller directs the Emory College Center for Science Education (CSE) and is a faculty member in the department of biology at Emory. CSE promotes access, interest and participation in science careers. The center’s programs bolster science literacy and provide hands-on research and curriculum development experiences for students and teachers at the precollege, college and postgraduate levels.
Marsteller also directs Emory’s HHMI Undergraduate Sciences program. She has more than 20 years experience in developing programs that attract and retain underrepresented students, women and minorities in careers in science. Her work in these areas includes special programs for undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs and faculty as well as outreach efforts with metro Atlanta Public School teachers and students.
Her more than 30 years of college teaching has included courses in evolution, physiology and Darwin, among others. She received Emory’s George P. Cuttino Award for Excellence in Mentoring in 2007.
