Emory Healthcare's Physician Group Practices have received a 2017 Ambulatory Care Quality and Accountability Leadership Award, ranking second in the nation among participating academic medical centers, from Vizient, Inc., the largest member-driven health care performance improvement company in the U.S. The award recognizes academic medical centers for demonstrating excellence in delivering high-quality, patient-centered, efficient and effective care in an outpatient setting.

Leadership from Emory's Physician Group Practices, which is comprised of Emory Clinic and Emory Specialty Associates, accepted the award on Sept. 14 in Denver, Co. during the 2017 Vizient Clinical Connections Summit.

Fifty academic medical centers took part in the Vizient Ambulatory Care Quality and Accountability Study. The study measured the quality of outpatient care in five domains: access to care, capacity management and throughput, quality and efficiency, continuum of care and equity. The composite scoring system also assessed patient-level data across several databases, including core measures data and data from members' Quality and Resource Use Reports from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

"We are honored to achieve this recognition, highlighting our outstanding performance in quality, efficiency and accountability in our outpatient clinics," says Jonathan S. Lewin, MD, president, CEO and chairman of the board of Emory Healthcare. "This award measures our Physician Group Practices among other peer academic medical center outpatient practices across the country, and we are pleased with our successes. Congratulations to our health care teams who always strive for excellence when providing care to our patients."
