Emory University ranks No. 15 on a new list of the world's top 100 universities with the best student-staff ratio. Compiled by Times Higher Education (THE), the 2016 ranking includes 800 universities from 70 different countries.

With 4.5 students for every staff member, Emory tied with the University of Rochester for the No. 15 spot. Emory's numbers allow students a high level of interaction with faculty and advisers, guaranteeing them strong academic support throughout their matriculation.

“Competitive global rankings from organizations such as Times Higher Education help Emory attract the best and brightest among international students considering U.S. schools,” notes Claire Sterk, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.

“Equally important, other institutions — our potential global partners — consider rankings in evaluating whether to move forward with collaborative endeavors," Sterk adds. "Our small student-staff ratio marks us as a university that cares about cultivating an ideal learning environment. This helps Emory align with partner universities who share our values.”

The list was dominated by U.S. colleges, followed by Japanese institutions.

“Student-to-staff ratios do not tell you everything you need to know about the student experience on a university campus, but they do give you a solid and simple indication of which universities are best equipped to provide small class sizes and offer the kind of close, personal supervision that students need to get the most out of their university education," explains Phil Baty, editor of THE World University Rankings.

"So this new data release, extracted from the overall THE World University Rankings, is designed to help to inform student choice, and to celebrate the universities best placed to support them," he says.

Emory ranked No. 90 in the overall 2016 THE World University Rankings, and ranked No. 38 for clinical, pre-clinical and health.
