Oxford celebrates new science building

Oxford College celebrated the grand opening of its new science building on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 21. More than 400 guests attended, representing alumni, faculty, staff, students, and members of the local and university communities.

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting followed remarks from Oxford College Dean Stephen Bowen, Emory University President James W. Wagner and others.

"This is a building designed specifically to support Oxford's mission and create a learning environment equal to the quality of our education program," Bowen said.

Attendees toured the 57,500-square-foot building and exterior amenities including a greenhouse and amphitheater.

Members of the Oxford science faculty created hands-on lab demonstrations that were educational and fun, especially delighting the children in attendance with such presentations as Adventures Under the Microscope, Screaming Gummy Bears, Making Elephant Toothpaste, and 3-D Printing.
