Free class offered for teen drivers and parents

The Emory Police Department is offering a P.R.I.D.E. (Parents Reducing Injuries and Driver Error) class on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This free, two-hour course is designed for both parents and their new teen drivers, ages 14-16. It seeks to reduce the high number of crashes, injuries and fatalities involving teen drivers in the state of Georgia.

It will be held at 1784 North Decatur Road, Suite G-01.

Registration for the course is on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact Emory Police Officer Darrell Johnson at 404-727-5662 for a registration form.

The course has four parts:

• Part I: “Teen Drivers and Motor Vehicle Crashes”

• Part II: “I’m Confused. What are GDL and TADRA All About?”

• Part III: For parents: “Coaching Your New Driver.” For teens: “Getting the Keys to the Wheels and Keeping Them”

• Part IV: “Agreement to Ride with Pride”

The program addresses driver attitude, knowledge and behavior, rather than technical hands-on driver skills. It complements, instead of replaces, driver education and training.
