Free concert raises disability awareness with Brazilian fusion

Frank Barham performs March 23 at the Emory Performing Arts Studio.

A night of jazz with the Frank Barham Brazilian Fusion Band will be Monday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Emory Performing Arts Studio.

Sponsored by the Emory Disability Studies Initiative (DSI) as its spring cultural event, the performance is free and open to the public.

The concert includes a question-and-answer session with Barham and will highlight Wheel 2 Live, a 302-mile tour to raise funds and disability awareness in which Barham will roll in his wheelchair from Atlanta to Savannah.

The tour is planned in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act and Barham will stop along the way for performances, spreading information about disability resources, and raising money to buy wheelchairs for those in need.

Wheel 2 Live kicks off at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights on May 11. Follow Wheel 2 Live on Facebook and @wheel2live on Twitter.
