Rollins experts host Reddit 'Ask Me Anything' chat

Rollins School of Public Health Dean James W. Curran, MD, MPH, along with Carlos Del Rio, MD, chair of the Hubert Department of Global Health, are teaming up to host an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) social media forum through Reddit.

On Thursday, Feb. 19, from 1-2 p.m., the experts —with specialties in infectious disease, vaccines, HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and public health — will participate in the Science AMA chat where scientists and other notable figures interact with the public worldwide by answering questions related to their fields.

Their “Ask Me Anything” chat is titled, following the style of the site, “Science AMA: I’m Jim Curran, Dean of Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health. In 1981, I led CDC’s investigation of a pneumonia outbreak among homosexual men in LA, the cause of which we termed ‘AIDS.’ With me is Carlos del Rio, Global Health Dept. Chair and instructor of an online Ebola course. AMA.”

Their questions and answers will then remain on the site for future readers.

Reddit is a popular social media site with millions of unique users around the world.  Past AMA participants include Elon Musk, Bill Gates and Buzz Aldrin to name a few.

The Science AMA forum opens at 8 a.m. for questions from the public.  Those interested in submitting questions may log on to www.reddit.com/r/science
