'Healthy New YOU Expo' offers guide to wellness

The third annual "Healthy New YOU Expo," featuring information on health, fitness and more, adds a new satellite location this year in addition to the main expo on campus. The expo is set for Thursday, Jan. 8.

The main site is the Cox Hall ballroom, and satellite expos will be held at Emory University Midtown Hospital, like last year, and one has been added at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital.

The expo, which features giveaways and food samples, will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Cox Hall and Saint Joseph’s and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Emory Midtown. Registration deadline is Jan. 6.

When people click on the link to register, they can choose the location they are going to attend or that they intend to view the expo online from their work area. Those who choose to view online will be emailed the link for the live feed.

The expos cover a range of topics and provide tools to help Emory employees improve their health. Featured are cooking demos, fitness demos, talks by wellness experts and exhibitors from the surrounding communities in the areas of fitness, nutrition, stress management, ergonomics, finance and more.

There will be a live feed on the web again this year from Cox Hall. "This was well received last year by the employees who were not able to get to the main campus. This is also one of the reasons that we created the additional satellite sites," says Dawn McMillian, wellness specialist at the Faculty Staff Assistance Program.

Interactive exhibitions at every site will offer employees a chance to join in the activities if they desire.

"We want everyone to know that all employees, both University and Healthcare, can come by even if they can only stay for 10 minutes," says McMillian. "This event is a great place to come for ideas, education and support to improve your personal wellness."

The expo is sponsored by the Faculty Staff Assistance Program.
