Veterans Day events include flag-raising ceremony, lecture at Goizueta

The entire Emory community is invited to join veterans across the University in honoring the sacrifice made by men and women of the U.S. armed forces in observance of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

On Thursday, Nov. 7 at 4:30 p.m., Retired Brigadier General Daniel J. Kaufman will speak at Goizueta Business School in Boynton Auditorium, Room 130. Kaufman is president and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.

The meaning of Veterans Day, as well as lessons in service and leadership, will be discussed. Kaufman, a Vietnam veteran, served in the U.S. Army for 37 years and retired in 2005 as dean of the Academic Board at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. A reception will follow the talk.

On Monday, Nov. 11 at 7:45 a.m., a military flag-raising ceremony will be held on the Emory Quad. The ceremony will culminate with the raising of the flag at 8 a.m.

The events, free and open to the public, recognize those in the Emory community who serve and have served in America’s military.

Leading the events are the Emory Veterans Association and Goizueta Business School Veterans Club. The Employee Council is co-sponsoring the Veterans Day ceremony.
