Wesley Woods makes sustainability goal in record time

Wesley Woods Senior Living has been recognized for achieving a milestone in sustainability in a record amount of time — a 20 percent reduction in energy and water consumption.

The Atlanta Better Buildings Challenge (Atlanta BBC) recognized Wesley Woods Senior Living for reaching this milestone achievement in sustainability. Asbury Harris Epworth Towers (AHET) and Branan Towers were two of just 20 Atlanta properties to complete its Atlanta BBC goal in 2013.

Atlanta BBC participants work to realize a 20 percent reduction in energy and water consumption in commercial properties by or before 2020. Wesley Woods Senior Living is among the first Atlanta BBC participants to achieve this goal within less than two years of the program’s launch.

"In 2011, AHET installed lower-flow plumbing fixtures. Since the installation of lower-flow toilets, showerheads and faucets, AHET has saved an average of $6,000 per month on its water bill — or over $70,000 annually.  We are excited to be saving money and also serving as better stewards of precious resources," says Ariene DeLong with Wesley Woods.

Atlanta, along with Seattle and Los Angeles, were the first cities selected by President Barack Obama in 2011 to participate in this U.S. Department of Energy-backed sustainability program that has since expanded throughout the country.

Wesley Woods Senior Living was formally recognized in a ceremony held July 16 at Hudson Grille Midtown.
