Emory student climbs Mt. Everest
Emory University Physician Assistant student Nick Gibson thrives when tackling incredible personal challenges -- like climbing Mt. Everest with the first all-military United States team as part of the Seven Summits Challenge. A pararescue jumper (PJ) in the Air Force Reserves, Gibson has deployed overseas to Iraq and Afghanistan to help save allies from combat injuries. He combined his passion for mountaineering and medicine as the Seven Summits Team medic on a groundbreaking journey to raise money for wounded warriors and increase global awareness of veterans' health issues beyond the battlefield. The challenge was for airmen to climb the highest peak on all seven continents with Mt. Everest being the final summit. Four members of the team hit the summit of Everest May 19th, however Gibson had to turn back a thousand feet from the summit because of frostbite concerns.
