Memorial Day kicks off special offers at the Carlos Museum

The Michael C. Carlos Museum has free and reduced admission offers for the summer and some new works and a big work-in-progress to see.

Blue Star Museums

Beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day, active military families will be admitted free to the museum on Emory's campus. The Carlos Museum is part of a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts known as Blue Star Museums, which offer this benefit to active-status military personnel and their families. More than 600 museums in every state and the District of Columbia are participating.

For the months of June and July, adult admission to the Carlos Museum will be reduced to $6 from $8 and kids under 18 with an adult get in for free. The free admission is limited to four children per one adult and does not apply to docent tours.

Admission is always free for Emory faculty, staff and students.

During the summer, museum staff will be installing new works of art. Of special interest will be the installation of a 1,000-pound ancient Roman mosaic in the Classical Court. That court will be blocked off for the work but windows will be in place so visitors can watch the process.

The museum also recently re-opened its renovated African gallery with some new objects on exhibit.
