Applications open for new Visa Corporate Cards

Applications for Emory's new Visa Corporate Card, the preferred method of paying for University-related travel expenses, are now available to faculty and staff.

All new and existing cardholders must fill out an online application for the Visa Corporate Card, which replaces the American Express Corporate Card. Amex cards will be suspended on May 1 — by that time, outdated cards should be shredded and discarded, according to Emory University Human Resources.

A step-by-step guide to filling out the application is available at www.howtopay.emory.edu.

After completing the online application, Visa Corporate Card applicants must be approved by a designated department business manager or chief business officer. Applicants will be notified when they have been approved; cards will be mailed directly to an address designated by the applicant within five to seven days.

The Emory corporate card is provided free of charge to eligible employees for appropriate University business expenses and does not require a personal credit check.

Adoption of the new Visa Corporate Card is among a series of policy changes that go into effect this month following a yearlong review of the University's travel and expense functions by Emory's Office of Business Practice Improvement (BPI).

"These changes are designed to improve the travel experience, financial stewardship of University funds, and to decrease the time that it takes to process travel expenses," says Sarah Pearse, manager of internal practice development and business practice improvement for the BPI office.

"Many changes were recommended by faculty and staff, and while not every recommendation was able to be implemented, many were," she adds. "They have been presented at numerous departmental meetings over the past several months, and reaction has been favorable."

Those seeking more information about changes in the travel and expense policies and the new Visa Corporate Card are invited to attend drop-in brown bag lunch sessions on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Wednesday, Feb. 27 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Dobbs University Center, room 362 (new E332). RSVPs are not required.

On Demand Video Training, which offers short educational videos on specific topics around the new card, and other downloadable resources are also available online.

For personal assistance in applying for the card, contact the Procurement and Payment Services Customer Care team, available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 404-727-5400.
