Goizueta Business School's Larry Benveniste has announced he is stepping down from his post as dean after eight years.

Benveniste, who is Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Finance, will stay on as faculty following the transition to the next dean.

"I leave this position having championed Goizueta through many important milestones, and am proud of the contributions we have made to the school, the Emory community and the greater business world," Benveniste said in a written statement. "It is for this reason that I feel now is the right time to initiate the process of identifying the next leader of what I know to be a school set squarely on a firm foundation and poised to continue along a strong trajectory."

Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Claire Sterk praised Benveniste in a letter announcing the transition.

Sterk noted that he "led initiatives that focused on faculty recruitment and enrichment and the formation of three new academic centers…(which are) distinct in their layered involvement of faculty, students and industry."

Under Benveniste, the business school raised over $60 million towards activities such as scholarship, faculty and programmatic enhancements.

"Featured recently in an article on Fortune.com, Larry is recognized for his orchestration of the school's new strategic direction and the accompanying impact on the community," Sterk wrote.

Benveniste will continue to serve as dean throughout the search for and transition to his successor as dean.
