New Emory Healthcare partnership provides more veterans with free mental health treatment
The Emory Healthcare Veterans Program is expanding its reach by joining forces with the South Carolina Department of Veterans’ Affairs to provide free mental health care and services to post-9/11 veterans and service members.

 

SUSTAINABILITY
Emory signs 'Break Free From Plastic' pledge
On June 15, President Gregory L. Fenves met with leaders of the student-led Plastic Free Emory Project and signed the "Break Free from Plastic" pledge, which outlines a five-year plan for reducing unnecessary single-use plastics on Emory’s Atlanta and Oxford campuses.

'Your Fantastic Mind' television series wins six Emmy awards
"Your Fantastic Mind," a television series partnership between the Emory Brain Health Center and Georgia Public Broadcasting, has been honored with six Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter.

IMPACT
‘Finding my voice’: Emory graduate shares his journey for World Refugee Day
Abdallah Al-Obaidi and his family fled violence in Iraq, eventually coming to the U.S. as refugees. He became a citizen during his sophomore year at Emory and is now headed to medical school as a way to give back.

An internationally renowned thoracic oncologist and physician scientist, Suresh S. Ramalingam has been named executive director of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.

Nogueira, Lamis honored with Albert E. Levy Award for Excellence in Scientific Research
Neurologist Raul Nogueira and psychologist Dorian Lamis are this year’s recipients of the Albert E. Levy Award for Excellence in Scientific Research, established to recognize the contributions of Emory faculty members to the advancement of scientific knowledge.

 

DISCOVERY
Study shows adaptive brain response to stress, and its absence in people with depression
A new study published by Emory psychologists identifies a novel biomarker indicating resilience to chronic stress. This biomarker is largely absent in people suffering from major depressive disorder, and this absence is further associated with pessimism in daily life, the study finds.
