IMPACT Emory Department of Pediatrics leads nation in NIH research funding The Department of Pediatrics in Emory's School of Medicine led the nation in federal research funding from the National Institutes of Health in 2020 among pediatric departments, according to rankings from the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. HEALTH CARE Emory expanding post-COVID clinics for 'long haulers' Emory physicians have established post-COVID clinics to provide follow-up care for people who continue to experience persistent symptoms. Researchers plan to investigate the origin of “long-haul COVID,” which can take a variety of forms. ANALYSIS The story of Georgia’s Senate races showcases professor’s use of data Political scientist Bernard Fraga considered voters’ demographic information to understand Georgia’s Senate runoff in a new way. His work with an undergraduate student now paves the way for similar research and teaching. RESEARCH Cancer and its treatment could impact survivors’ ability to work, report says Senior Vice President for Research Deborah Watkins Bruner contributed to a new report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine indicating that although cancer survivors are living longer, cancer and its treatment can result in lasting or late-onset impairments that may affect their ability to work. INSIGHT Emory launches new vaccination tracker as part of online health equity dashboard Emory researchers are enhancing a dynamic COVID-19 Health Equity dashboard to shine a light on how U.S. states are progressing on vaccination. Reports indicate that Black Americans, who have been disproportionately impacted by the virus, are lagging behind in getting the vaccine.

CAMPUS NEWS   EVENTS Lecture to explore how ghetto inmates saved works of art from Nazis David E. Fishman will deliver Emory's annual Tenenbaum Lecture on Monday, Feb. 22, via Zoom webinar. He will explore “The Book Smugglers of the Vilna Ghetto: A Story of Spiritual Resistance.” COLLABORATION Emory and Georgia Tech students join forces to ‘Hack COVID-19’ The HACK COVID-19 competition, led by the Emory Global Health Institute and Georgia Tech, tackled an important topic: products that help schools and businesses safely reopen in light of the pandemic. Learn about the winning entries. TRIBUTE Emory mourns passing of Theater Studies professor Alice N. Benston The Emory community is mourning the passing of Alice N. Benston, former associate dean of Laney Graduate School and professor of theater studies. She was instrumental in building the Department of Theater Studies and establishing Theater Emory’s Playwriting Center.
