LEADERSHIP Letter from President Claire E. Sterk to the Emory community In a letter to the Emory community, President Claire E. Sterk discusses her decision to retire as the university's president, effective August 2020, and her return to Emory's faculty. UNIVERSITY President Claire E. Sterk announces retirement, effective August 2020 President Claire E. Sterk has notified the Emory University Board of Trustees that she will be retiring as president, effective August 2020. The Board has accepted her retirement and will be launching a search for a successor. HONORS McKenna receives 2019 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Award Since joining Emory last spring, Maryn McKenna has worked to develop and teach courses and skills workshops on health and science communication, addressing writing, multimedia storytelling and public persuasion. CAMPUS Four new fellows join Emory's Creative Writing Program Bringing talents in poetry, fiction and playwriting, Kimberly Belflower, Katie Condon, Gabriel Houck and Josh Wilder will help educate undergraduates and continue honing their own craft. Houck and Belflower give a public reading Nov. 18. PARTNERSHIPS Georgia Climate Conference explores what's at stake for state Held at Emory, the Georgia Climate Conference drew diverse interests and industries to share ideas about how to minimize Georgia's risks and maximize the state's future in a changing climate.
