LITERATURE Emory professor Jericho Brown named finalist for National Book Award for poetry Out of hundreds of submissions, Emory Creative Writing Program Director Jericho Brown's collection "The Tradition" is one of just five finalists named to the prestigious "short list" for the 2019 National Book Award for poetry. GROWTH Groundbreaking marks next step toward Executive Park long-term plan Emory Healthcare broke ground on the new Emory Musculoskeletal Institute on Oct. 4. The facility will house services for orthopaedics and spine care, physical therapy, imaging and ambulatory surgery, plus include research support space. ENVIRONMENT Emory earns 2019 Outstanding Institutional Recycling Program award Emory's extensive efforts to divert campus waste from landfills garnered the Spirit of Green Award for institutional recycling from the Georgia Recycling Coalition. SCIENCE Navigating 'Neuralville': Virtual town helps map brain functions Emory psychologists have found that the human brain uses three distinct systems to perceive our environment — one for recognizing a place, another for navigating through that place and a third for navigating from one place to another.
