Anderson's 'One Person, No Vote' named finalist for prestigious PEN America Literary Award
Emory historian Carol Anderson's best-selling account of attacks on voting rights in America, "One Person, No Vote," has been named one of five finalists for the 2019 PEN America Literary Award in nonfiction.

 

HEALTH
HPV vaccination rates remain critically low among younger adolescents
Only about 16 percent of U.S. adolescents have been fully vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) by the time they turn 13, despite national recommendations that call for vaccination at 11 to 12 years of age.

 

LITERATURE
Former inaugural poet Richard Blanco to give free reading at Emory
Richard Blanco, who read his poem "One Today" at President Obama's second inauguration, gives a free reading Feb. 23 at Emory. Blanco is the youngest, first Latino, first immigrant and first gay person to serve as inaugural poet.

Emory honors its historic beginnings with Founder's Week, a midwinter celebration Feb. 3-9 filled with lectures, art, sports, the "All In a Day" online giving event and the 2019 Jazz Fest.
