SUSTAINABILITY Ecosystems hanging by a thread As the world's primate populations dwindle, so do the chances for a healthy planet where humans can thrive. Emory ecologist Thomas Gillespie has helped uncover a crisis among our nearest taxonomic neighbors. INNOVATION Machines see the future for patients diagnosed with brain tumors Researchers at Emory and Northwestern Universities recently developed artificial intelligence (AI) software that can predict the survival of patients diagnosed with glioma. RESEARCH Biophysicists discover how small populations of bacteria survive treatment In a study published in the journal eLife, lead author and Emory biophysicist Minsu Kim discovered that small populations of pathogenic bacteria may be harder to kill off than larger populations because they respond differently to antibiotics. CAMPUS Eagle Edge initiative debuts to support Emory's student-athletes Emory Athletics' new Eagle Edge initiative will provide one-stop assistance to aid student-athletes in four core areas: academic support, health and well-being, life skills, and leadership and service. RESOURCES What happens if you are injured working abroad? While on a research trip to Côte d'Ivoire, art historian Susan Elizabeth Gagliardi was injured in a car accident. Far from home, she relied on International SOS, Emory's international travel assistance provider, to see to her welfare.
