EVENTS Emory Founders Week celebrates scholarship, literature, student alumni With a nod to the past, present and future, Founders Week kicks off Feb. 6 with a Distinguished Faculty Lecture presented by acclaimed Emory historian Carol Anderson. HEALTH Flu season 2018: Fast facts and tips you need to know Emory Saint Joseph's infectious disease physician Mitchell A. Blass discusses symptoms and tips for staying safe this season. ACHIEVEMENT 2018 Japan Prize is awarded to Emory immunologist Max Cooper School of Medicine professor Max Cooper will receive the prestigious Japan Prize for the discovery of the dual nature of adaptive immunity, which identified the cellular building blocks of the immune system as we understand it today. LITERATURE Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith to give reading at Emory Tracy K. Smith, the current U.S. poet laureate and Pulitzer Prize-winning poet, will give a reading of her poems on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 4 p.m. at Emory's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts. CONSERVATION Chimpanzee studies highlight disease risk to all endangered wildlife Emory disease ecologist Thomas Gillespie was a guest editor of the newly published special edition of the American Journal of Primatology, bringing together experts who have contributed to the understanding of chimpanzee health at Gombe National Park in Tanzania and beyond. EVENTS February: 10 free things to do on campus From poetry to puppets and singing to sports, February's calendar brings a variety of free entertainment and educational events to campus.
