The Wire   COMMUNITY Urban Health Initiative volunteers rally to relocate community garden An oasis in a Northwest Atlanta food desert, what was once known as the Super Giant Community Garden faced a crisis when the grocery store whose name and parking lot it shared abruptly closed. Thanks to Emory and community volunteers, the garden now has a new home. EVENTS Debut of shrine exhibit heralds start of Emory's Tibet Week "Doorway to an Enlightened World: The Tibetan Shrine from the Alice S. Kandell Collection" opens March 19 at the Carlos Museum, providing a centerpiece for Emory's annual celebration of Tibet Week, set for March 21-26. SPORTS Emory golf, softball teams clinch University Athletic Association titles The Emory golf and softball teams won the University Athletic Association championships over the weekend, which also saw key action for baseball, basketball, tennis and track & field. LITERATURE Acclaimed writer Sherman Alexie visits Emory for reading, lecture Novelist and poet Sherman Alexie comes to Emory for two events April 4-5. His National Book Award-winning "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" was named the best Young Adult Book of all time by Time Magazine. PROFILE Stefan Lutz: A scientist's view from Earth's highest mountains Stefan Lutz, professor and chair of chemistry at Emory, is a dedicated mountaineer on a quest to climb the Seven Summits -- the highest peak on each of the continents. He leaves March 26 for Nepal and a two-month expedition to climb Mount Everest. Find out how his scientific training informs his climbing and how he brings his climbing experience into the classroom.
