The Wire   EDUCATION Emory joins network to better prepare future STEM faculty Emory is now a member of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning, backed by the National Science Foundation to improve teaching skills and increase the diversity of future faculty in STEM fields. HISTORY Du Bois' copy of rare anti-slavery book now held by Rose Library A first edition of David Walker's 19th century anti-slavery book, "Walker's Appeal," owned and signed by W.E.B. Du Bois, has been obtained by Emory's Rose Library. The rare book is considered one of the most important documents in African American history. RESEARCH Zika research shows how virus could affect the developing brain Researchers from Emory's School of Medicine were part of a recent advance in understanding how the Zika virus harms the developing brain. TEACHING Undergraduate course leads to exhibit of Asian artifacts "Learning from the Empire: Japan in the Archives of Oxford College and Emory University," a new exhibit at Woodruff Library, showcases research by students in the course "Literary and Visual Culture in Japan." ART Letterpress printer artist Amos P. Kennedy Jr. to discuss creativity Amos P. Kennedy Jr. left his corporate job more than two decades ago to pursue his art. Known for chipboard posters created with an old-fashioned letterpress printer, he visits Emory for a Creativity Conversation on March 15. ACCOLADES Women of Excellence Awards honor faculty, staff, students and alumnae From inspiring teachers to engaging theater performers, the winners of this year's Women of Excellence Awards have something in common: extraordinary dedication to issues that affect women at Emory or in the larger community. PROFILE Stephanie Day-Goodman: Shaped by and shaping Oxford At Emory's Oxford College, Stephanie Day-Goodman discovered a new perspective and a passion for art history. Deeply involved in campus leadership and service, she is one of two students chosen to serve on the steering committee for the Oxford College Strategic Plan.
