ACCOMPLISHMENT Emory College senior awarded prestigious Churchill Scholarship As a Churchill Scholar, Ilakkia Anabayan will pursue a master’s degree in clinical neurosciences at the University of Cambridge next year. She is Emory’s third Churchill recipient and the first since 1988. ACHIEVEMENT Alumnus wins select State Department fellowship Oscar Escobar is the third Emory recipient of the prestigious Rangel Graduate Fellowship, an early-career program for aspiring diplomats. RECOGNITION Historian Daniel LaChance named 2022-23 Chronos Fellow Emory historian Daniel LaChance, whose research examines harsh punishment in the United States, has been awarded the Chronos Faculty Fellowship in Emory College of Arts and Sciences. SCIENCE International trade bans on endangered species tend to hurt reptiles International trade bans on endangered species generally help mammals improve their status but hurt reptiles, finds a major economics study led by Emory.

Themes will include how the study of the Holocaust informs their current work; the similarities and differences in public health and the political environments of pre-Holocaust Europe and today; and what makes the study of the Holocaust relevant for current society.
