The CBSC program, which Emory launched in 2002 with a seed gift from the Kenneth Cole Foundation, soon became a national model for integrating research and classroom learning with community engagement.

Olympics bound: Former Emory swimmer Andrew Wilson makes history
Former Emory swimming standout Andrew Wilson made history as the first NCAA Division III swimmer to ever qualify for the Olympics. He has been formally announced as part of the U.S. roster for the upcoming Summer Games in Tokyo, Japan.

Emory signs 'Break Free From Plastic' pledge
On June 15, President Gregory L. Fenves met with leaders of the student-led Plastic Free Emory Project and signed the "Break Free from Plastic" pledge, which outlines a five-year plan for reducing unnecessary single-use plastics on Emory’s Atlanta and Oxford campuses.

INSPIRATION
‘Finding my voice’: Emory graduate shares his journey for World Refugee Day
Abdallah Al-Obaidi and his family fled violence in Iraq, eventually coming to the U.S. as refugees. He became a citizen during his sophomore year at Emory and is now headed to medical school as a way to give back. Read his story, which was highlighted nationally for World Refugee Day on June 20.

Two experts nominated to serve on Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board
President Joe Biden has nominated Gabrielle Dudley and Hank Klibanoff to serve on the Civil Rights Cold Case Review Board to examine and release the records of unpunished, racially motivated murders during the modern civil rights era.

 

RESEARCH
Goizueta Business School partners with the LGBTQ Institute on survey
Melissa Williams and Giacomo Negro have partnered with the LGBTQ Institute to survey LGBTQ people in the South about their quality of life related to health care, civic engagement and employment. PhD candidate Gabrielle Lopiano is assisting with the research.

CLASSROOM
The way forward: Sparking educational evolution
The forced experiment of remote learning served as a prime opportunity for Emory faculty to rethink and retool their teaching. Technology improved the experience, but faculty and students agree that an in-person, experiential education is difficult to replace.
